Task 1. Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.


English is the only official language or one of the official languages of nearly 60 countries. It is also the main language of more countries in the world than any other. It is the primary language in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It is one of the official languages in Singapore, India, Hong Kong, and South Africa. It is widely spoken in parts of the Caribbean, Africa, and South Asia. There are about 375 million native English speakers in the world. In 2005, it was estimated that there were over 2 billion speakers of English. English is the first foreign language for most learners who have another main language. About 220 million more people use English as their second language. It is, together with German, the most important language of science and technology. It is often used in work and travel and trade, and there are at least a billion people who are learning it. That makes English the largest language by number of speakers

Task 2. Study the advertisement.

You are considering buying a laptop in a local electronic store and now you’d like to get more information. In 1.5 minutes you are to ask four direct questions to find out about the following:

1. location
2. models available
3. if delivery is possible
4. sales and discounts

You have 20 seconds to ask each questions.
Task 3. You are going to give an interview. You have to answer five questions. Give full answers to the questions (2-3 sentences). Remember that you have 40 seconds to answer each question.

Task 4. Imagine that you are doing a school project “ Learning Foreign languages” together with your friend. You have found some photos to illustrate it but for technical reasons you cannot send them now. Leave a voice message to your friend explaining your choice of the photos and sharing some ideas about the project. In 2.5 minutes be ready to:

  • explain the choice of the illustrations for the project by briefly describing them and noting the differences;
  • mention the advantages (1–2) of the two types of learning foreign languages;
  • mention the disadvantages (1–2) of the two types of learning foreign languages;
  • express your opinion on the subject of the project – which way of learning foreign languages presented in the pictures you prefer and why.

You will speak for not more than 3 minutes (2-3 sentences for each item of the plan, 12–15 sentences total). You have to talk continuously.
